A polytrimethylene terephthalate resin which comprises 60 to 100 mole % of a trimethylene terephthalate recurring unit (a) and 0 to 40 mole % of at least one monomer unit (b) derived from a monomer unit being different from a monomer used for obtaining said unit (a) and being copolymerizable with at least one monomer used for obtaining said unit (a), the mole percentages being relative to 100 mole % of the sum of said units (a) and (b), and has the following characteristics (A) to (D): (A) a limiting viscosity [eta] of 0.6 to 4 dl/g, (B) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 2 to 2.7, (C) a content of a cyclic dimer of 2 wt % or less, (D) an L value of lightness index of 70 to 100, and a b* value of chromaticness index of -5 to 25.
