The invention relates to a method of cleaning a filtration installation of t he type comprising a plurality of immersed membranes in at least one tank containing an effluent to be filtered, said method being characterised in that it includes the step s consisting of: - at least partially draining the effluent contained in said tank in a way that exposes said membranes to the air; - causing at least one cleaning solution to pass through said membranes alon g a flow path opposite to the filtration flow of the effluent by feeding in said cleaning solution from the permeate side of said membranes.
