A surgical vacuum sealing device (110) includes a flexible vacuum platter (112) having a vacuum manifold (122) around the periphery of the underside of the platter and a flexible hollow sleeve (111) extending from the underside of the platter (112) to the exterior of the device (110). The vacuum manifold (122) is defined by inner and outer walls (130 and 130a), with one wall having a plurality of spaced apart projections or deformations (131) directed towards the other walls so that upon the application of the vacuum a multitude of small vents are created under the manifold ensuring that the vacuum is evenly distributed.
