Methods and apparatus to optimized application program interfaces (API) in a virtual machine (VM) environment. First, a processor instruction stub (PIPS) associated with one or more processor instructions is generated, wherein the term "stub" refers to a portion of dynamically-generated code provided to perform various tasks during execution of a program. Then, based on the generated PIPS, an optimized application program interface is generated to execute the on or more processor instructions. This optimization overcomes the fact that a JIT compiler in a VM environment is not capable of processor-specific optimization, that is, is not able to take advantage of the features provided by the underlying processor. |
