<p>The present invention provides biosensor test devices for measuring the presence or amount of an analyte in a biological fluid. The devices have a base plate (101) that has an electrode system (103, 105, 107) embedded therein, and a hydrophilic porous material (115) situated on the base plate (101). A hydrophobic protective layer (117) is situated on the hydrophilic porous material (115), and a cover (119) is placed on the hydrophobic protective layer (117) to complete the device. Some embodiments also use an insulating layer (111), which can be situated between the base plate (101) and the hydrophilic porous material (115). The cover (119) of the device has an opening (125) present therein, situated over the electrodes (103, 105, 107), so that the electrodes communicate with the exterior of the device through the opening (125). The insulating layer (111) can also have a groove (113) situated therein, which in one embodiment is placed to align with the groove (125) in the cover (119). The invention also provides methods of manufacturing the devices, and methods of using them.</p> |
