摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently increase a catalyst temperature by flexibly coping with even a difference in the specifications of a heater heating type electric heating catalyst. SOLUTION: In this device, the switch element 21 of a heater drive circuit 20 is turned on to continuously flow a current exceeding a heater rating from a 42 V high-tension power supply to the heater 11b of the electric heating catalyst so as to rapidly heat the catalyst. Next, after a prescribed time is passed, the switch element 21 is switched by pulses from a pulse generating circuit 22 to intermittently flow a current to the heater 11b so as to suppress a consumed current by a chopper control. Thus, the consumed current can be suppressed by the chopper control by effectively increasing the catalyst temperature to remarkably increase a power supply efficiency. Also, the device can flexibly cope with the heaters of various specifications to adapt to a large number of vehicle models by properly setting a continuous energizing time and a chopper control duty ratio.
