METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING MERCAPTAN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a mercaptan that prevents the increase of the mercaptan concentration in the process of purifying LPG, and an apparatus for removing the mercaptan.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for removing the mercaptan is provided with a purification column 1 for purifying LPG with an alkali solution and an LPG introducing line 2 for introducing LPG into the purification column 1 and an LPG feeding line 3 for feeding LPG from the purification column 1 and constructed so as to remove the mercaptan from LPG. When the mercaptan concentration in LPG to be fed from the purification column 1 is increased, the apparatus is constructed so as to close the LPG introducing line 2 and the LPG feeding line 3 and circulate LPG present in the purification column 1 to purify LPG with an alkali solution. The apparatus makes it possible to remove the mercaptan by reacting the mercaptan with the alkali solution and prevent the increase in the mercaptan concentration in the process of purifying LPG.
