PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the thickness of a cabinet in a folding-type image pickup unit and to sufficiently secure the area of a display part even when lens barrel length of a lens is long. SOLUTION: The bottom face of a recessed part 17 arranged in the second cabinet 3 of a digital camera 1 is set to be the panel surface 14a of a monitor display part 14. When a second face 2b where the lens barrel 11 of a first cabinet 2 is disposed is confronted with a second face 3b where the monitor display part 14 of the second cabinet 3 is installed and they are folded, the projection part 11a of the lens barrel 11 is stored in a recessed part 17. The plate direction of a circuit board 43 incorporated in the first cabinet 2 becomes parallel to that of the first cabinet 2. The plate direction of a circuit board 44 arranged by avoiding the lens barrel 11 and is incorporated in the second cabinet 3 becomes parallel to that of the second cabinet 3.
