PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus which enables the changeover of a plurality of display states without increasing the number of electrodes, and to provide its display method. SOLUTION: The distribution state of migration particles 3a, 3b is varied to display by applying a DC voltage on electrodes 4 and 5, while the migration particles 3a, 3b are moved to a strong electric field region or a weak electric field region of an uneven electric field in a closed container according to the difference between the relative dielectric constant of the migration particles 3a, 3b and the relative dielectric constant of a dispersion medium 2 having a different relative dielectric constant from that of the migration particles 3a, 3b by applying an AC voltage between the electrodes 4, 5.
