PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light diffusing screen for a single-light-source type rear projection television which is used in combination with a Fresnel lens sheet, the light diffusing screen being characterized in that excellent video is obtained by reducing scintillation and adjusting roughness of the screen top surface. SOLUTION: The light diffusing screen for the single-light-source type rear projection television is provided which is used in combination with the Fresnel lens sheet, the light diffusing screen comprising a lens layer horizontally refracting projection light and a light diffusing layer which is formed on its light projection side by dispersing light diffusing material particulates made of a light-transmitting material in a light transmitting base material. Further, a light diffusing screen is provided for a transmission type projection screen characterized in that a light diffusing layer is in a multilayer structure such that an outermost layer on the light projection side of the light diffusing layer is a layer diffusing light most intensely and an innermost layer on the light projection side of the light diffusing screen has surface roughness Ra of 0.2 to 1.0μm.
