PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for raising balloonfishes by which the balloonfishes of a poikilothermic animal are raised in high growth rate; and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The temperature of water for fish breeding is kept within a range of 10-30°C. Preferably, the temperature is kept within the range of 19-29°C when the body weight of the individual of the balloonfishes which are targets of the fish breeding is <10 g, within the range of 18-28°C when the body weight is≥10 g and <100 g, and within the range of 13-23°C when the body weight is≥100 g. For example, tiger puffers having 4 g initial body weights are raised at each constant temperature of 15, 20, 25 and 30°C, the rates of weight increase [(a body weight at the final time)/(a body weight at the initial time)×100] are 94% at 15°C, 286% at 20°C, 414% at 25°C and 235% at 30°C. As a result, it is discovered that the optimum growth temperature (Topt) is present at about 24°C from an approximating curve exhibiting the relation of the water temperature and the rate of the weight increase.
