PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display equipped with a light source which has high efficiency of heat radiation and hardly brings about light leakage. SOLUTION: A light source 1 is provided with a lamp 2 like a extra-high pressure mercury lamp or a metal halide lamp, and irradiated light of the light source is emitted after being paralletized by a parabolic reflector 3. The parabolic reflector 3 is manufactured by press working or the like of a metal like stainless steel. A transparent plate 3a made of glass or the like is stuck to a light exit side aperture of the parabolic reflector 3. The transparent plate 3a is stuck in order to prevent scattering of fragments of the lamp when the lamp bursts. An aperture(cut-off) for ventilation is not formed in the parabolic reflector 3.
