PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus capable of optionally activating an electronic shutter means and a drive method thereof, the solid-state imaging apparatus including: a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix form; vertical registers for vertically transferring electric charges stored in the pixels; horizontal registers for horizontally transferring electric charges stored in the pixels; and the electronic shutter means for sweeping out the electric charges stored in the pixels on the basis of electronic shutter pulses. SOLUTION: The solid-state imaging apparatus is provided with a transfer interruption means for temporarily stopping transfer of electric charges in the vertical registers in the case of activating the electronic shutter means.
