PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an A/D converter having comparison purpose inverters so as to suppress a self-consumption current thereby attaining the low power consumption by means of circuitry contrivance. SOLUTION: The A/D converter is provided with: a first level inverter with a first level and for comparison purpose; a comparison purpose second level inverter whose level is lower than the first level inverter; a comparison purpose third level inverter whose level is lower than the second level inverter; a comparison purpose N-th level inverter whose level is lower than the third level inverter; one or more inverters with a level between the level of the third level inverter and the level of the N-th level inverter; and a control circuit section for realizing a desired output range width by activating a desired inverter among the inverters above.
