PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic base for a display element excellent in heat resistance and transparency. SOLUTION: An epoxy resin composition for a display element base composed of an epoxy resin (a) and a cationic curing catalyst (b), and characterized that a glass transition temperature of the cured material is≥200°C, and the light transmittance thereof at a wavelength of≥400 nm is≥80%. The epoxy resin (a) is desirably to be based on an alicyclic epoxy resin, or the like represented by formula (2) as a principal component. The cationic curing catalyst (b) is an initiator for discharging a substance for starting cationic polymerization by heating and at least one of a compound selected from an aromatic sulfonium salt, an aromatic iodonium salt and an aluminum chelate.
