The stiffening column (5) in the internal combustion engine cylinder head extends between the floor of an oil chamber (4) and a cylinder head floor (2). There are first (6) and second (7) passages for cooling fluid between the two floor members connected together by the stiffening column. An intermediate dividing wall (3) separates the two cooling fluid passages. It is connected to the stiffening column by a load-relieving flexure defined by grooves (8) opposite each other in the top and bottom surfaces of the intermediate dividing wall.
