An improved efficiency heat exchanger, e.g. for heating or cooling of water or oil, has a block shaped housing with two pairs of parallel ducts (13), one through the top of the block and one through the bottom of the block. The ends of the blocks are fitted wit sealing plates. Cross ducts are fitted at both ends of the block to provide a continuous path for the fluid, starting for example at the bottom RH duct and finishing at the bottom LH duct, while also passing through the top ducts. Metals heat exchanger pipes are fitted into the ducts as loops to and from the rear plate and transmit heating or cooling fluid to the housing and the parallel ducts. The housing block has an additional central bore to take an electric heating element, e.g. for supplying heat fluid.
