<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in a conventional face authentication system using template matching that occurrence of a state such that the brows are covered with the hair in a face template, but not covered in a conversion image may lead to a wrong personal identification even in the same person. <P>SOLUTION: This personal identification system using face comprises editing the face template T from an image registered in a database, editing the conversion image W of an area corresponding to the face template area from a taken image, calculating the normalization correlation coefficient between the face template T and the converted image W, and performing the identification based on this value. In this system, the normalization correlation coefficient is calculated by use of only pixels which both corresponding pixels belong to the skin area of the face in superimposition of the face template T on the conversion image W. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
