摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for embodying an optical compensation layer for increasing the visual angle of a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell, a couple of polarizing plate which is provided across the liquid crystal cell, a 1st compensation layer which is provided between the liquid crystal cell and one polarizing plate, and a 2nd compensation layer which is provided between the liquid crystal cell and the other polarizing plate. Optical characteristics of the 1st compensation layer satisfy 0.644<R0(450)/R0(550)<1 and 1<R0(650)/R0(550)<1.36.
