<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for embodying an optical compensation layer for increasing the visual angle of a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell, a couple of polarizing plate which is provided across the liquid crystal cell, a 1st compensation layer which is provided between the liquid crystal cell and one polarizing plate, and a 2nd compensation layer which is provided between the liquid crystal cell and the other polarizing plate. Optical characteristics of the 1st compensation layer satisfy 0.644<R0(450)/R0(550)<1 and 1<R0(650)/R0(550)<1.36. Optical characteristics of the 2nd compensation layer satisfy 1<Rth(450)/Rth(550)<1.35 and 0.874<Rth(650)/Rth(550)/1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
