PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve user-friendliness of a translucent manuscript reader as a simple body unit. SOLUTION: A navigation sheet 24, in which the content of translucent manuscript reading processing is described, and a film guide 25 for holding a translucent manuscript are set in parallel on a manuscript stage 23. While a scanner carriage unit 22 is moved, the navigation sheet 24 is read at first, and the content is recognized. Then, the scanner carriage unit 22 is moved further, the translucent manuscript held by the film guide 25 is read based on the recognition result of the navigation sheet 24.
