<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical head device stable in servo characteristics, reduced in error rate at the time of reproducing information, and capable of stably performing a write operation and an erase operation at the time of writing and erasing information. <P>SOLUTION: The optical head device is provided with a light source, a condensing optical system for condensing a light beam emitted from the light source to an information storage medium with tracks, a photo-detector with a plurality of detecting areas for outputting signals according to a light quantity of light reflected by the information storage medium, and a tracking error signal generating means for generating a tracking signal based on the signal outputted from the photo-detector. The tracking error signal generating means reduces the difference between a 1st signal amplitude that is an absolute value of the difference between a 1st signal level and a 2nd signal level, and a 2nd signal amplitude that is an absolute value of the difference between the 1st signal level and a 3rd signal level. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
