<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylene having a sulfonic acid group which excels in proton conductivity, chemical resistance, and mechanical resistance, and can sufficiently exhibit the performance of a proton conductive membrane in operation over a long period, to prepare a proton conductive membrane composed thereof, and to provide a method for efficiently and easily producing the polyarylene having the sulfonic group with a small metal content. <P>SOLUTION: The polyarylene having the sulfonic group has a content of each of metals of ≤100 ppm. The method for producing the polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group comprises adding an organic acid to a solution containing a polyarylene having a sulfonic acid ester group, then hydrolyzing the sulfonic acid ester group to the sulfonic acid group, introducing the obtained solution containing the polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group into a poor solvent for the polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group to deposit the polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group, and recovering the deposited polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
