PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely travel even in a complicated-shaped pipe, and to automatically change the advancing direction when there is an obstacle in the advancing direction, by using a bristle-like body having resiliency as a transmission means of propulsion of a device. SOLUTION: This automatic traveling robot has a propulsion generating part 3 using its restoration as the propulsion in the predetermined direction by deflecting the slantingly arranged bristle-like body 2 by vibration, a robot body 5 having a vibrating part 4 for vibrating this propulsion generating part 3, a wheel 7 for changing the traveling direction of the robot body 5, and a direction changing device 6 installed in a front part of the robot body 5 so that contactors 16a and 16b respectively projecting in the lateral direction freely oscillate in the horizontal direction. The automatic traveling robot is constituted so as to change the direction of the wheel 7 in the opposite direction of these contacted contactors 16a and 16b by interlocking with operation of the contactors 16a and 16b contacting with this obstacle O when any of left or right contactor 16a and 16b of the direction changing device 6 contacts with the obstacle O when traveling.
