A car tyre (1) to road friction coefficient measurement procedure uses tyre or body mounted sensors (4) to record the rolling noise and calculate the noise spectrum, normalises it to the measured wheel speed, analyses the amplitude using band pass filters (8) for comparison (12) of friction coefficient characteristic signals with stored reference values and creates an acoustic warning signal. - INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for the use of other parameters including tyre load, type, pressure and temperature, road temperature, damper type, steering angle and spring status in the analysis.
