<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the time when a waste toner container is filled with waste toner. <P>SOLUTION: A printing device receives image data and a print demand from a host device (S1), and transmits a signal to a print engine by its controller (S2). The print engine converts the image data into print data, and performs an image process such as writing on a photoreceptor (S3). At this point, the writing unit of the print engine counts the number of pixels of the image data for each line of print data, and counts the number of pixels of the present page (S4). The counted number of pixels is added to the cumulative number of pixels already stored in a nonvolatile ROM (S5). Then, a ratio between the added cumulative number of pixels and the number of pixels at which the waste toner container is filled with the waste toner, which is prestored in the nonvolatile ROM, is calculated (S6).
