摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quantitatively measure the intensity of odors through the use of an adjustable (configurable)scale, in other words, to provide a method and a system for providing a measuring scale applicable (at least to some degree), regardless of the properties of the odor under study. <P>SOLUTION: The intensity of the odor can be quantified, by determining what the response of an odor sensing device to the odor, then transforming the response data into an odor intensity value, based on transformation data relating to a set of selected reference odors. The transformation data includes organoleptic data which indicate how the odor intensity values assigned to the set of reference odors by a sensory panel depend on the concentration of the reference compounds and includes data indicating how the response data of the odor sensing device, when exposed to the set of reference odors, depend on the concentration of the reference compounds.
