PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a display device such as a simple matrix type liquid crystal display device etc. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for driving the display device equipped with N (N: an integer of≥2) pieces of scanning lines Y1 to Y120, M (M: an integer of≥2) pieces of data lines, a plurality of display elements (liquid crystal) whose display state is controlled with voltage applied to scanning lines and voltage applied to data lines, driving circuits 50 and 60 for the scanning lines, and driving circuits 10 to 40 for the data lines. A display control signal is inputted to the driving circuits for the scanning lines and with the display control signal, only (N-K=N/2) pieces of scanning lines are regarded as objects to be selected for display while K (e.g. K=N/2) pieces of successive scanning lines among the N pieces of scanning lines are excluded from objects to be selected, and then driven.
