PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of relatively easily generating display data and performing more various displays than heretofore without increasing data volume. SOLUTION: In the image display device, a moving image sprite I0 is stored in a pattern ROM 3 as it is, and a moving image sprite I1 is subjected to operation of I1-I0=P1 per dot and a difference sprite P1 resulting from this operation is stored in the pattern ROM 3, and a moving image sprite I2 is stored in the pattern ROM 3 as it is, and a moving image sprite I3 is subjected to operation of I3-I2=P3 and a difference sprite P3 resulting from this operation is stored in the pattern ROM 3, with respect to moving image sprites to be successively displayed in consecutive frames F0 to F3, which are shown as data I0 to I3 in Figure.α0 toα3 beingαdata are stored correspondingly to respective sprites.
