<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple power control method for connection when switching the recording velocity of a high linear velocity write-once type DVD medium to the highest linear velocity. <P>SOLUTION: In the recording on the write-once type DVD medium which has a wobble in an organic dye-based recording layer in which the highest linear velocity recording condition and a linear velocity recording condition are recorded, the highest linear velocity recording power Po optimized by trial write is compared to the highest linear velocity recording power Pi recorded on the recording layer in a radial position where recording is switched to the highest linear speed recording. If Po>Pi, the recording start power at the highest linear velocity is calculated by the equation "(Po+Pi)/2 + (Po-Pi)<SP>2</SP>/Pi". If Po≤Pi, the Pi is used as the recording start power. The shortest mark is recorded by irradiation with a single light pulse having a power level W0, the second shortest mark is recorded by irradiation with a single light pulse which has a power level W0, W1 or W2 as a base and whose front/rear end has the power level W0 or W1 for a predetermined time, and the third shortest or longer marks are recorded by irradiation with a single light pulse which has the power level W2 as a base and whose front/rear ends have the power levels W0 or W1 for a predetermined time, wherein the power levels are defined as W0>W1>W2, and the rear ends and the rear parts thereof of the all pulses are irradiated with cooling pulses each having ≤0.1 mW irradiation quantity for a predetermined time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
