PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus capable of performing bright multi-colored display having high resolution and high contrast. SOLUTION: An image display medium 1 is provided with a front substrate 2 having m×n pieces of pixel electrodes 24 provided for every pixel, a rear substrate 3 disposed opposite to the front substrate 2 and having m pieces of scanning electrodes 31 and particles 6A and 6B encapsulated between the substrates 2 and 3. Image writing time can be reduced by dividing m pieces of the scanning electrodes 31 into Q sets for every p pieces, simultaneously selecting the p pieces of the scanning electrodes 31 and applying voltage to the pixel electrodes 24 corresponding to the selected scanning electrodes 31.
