PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-shaft gas turbine and its cooling air admission method capable of efficiently cooling an output turbine by flexibly coping with the unbalance of a cooling air flow rate to optimize the cooling air flow rate even if the unbalance of the cooling air flow rate occurs due to a variation in the rotational speed of the output turbine. SOLUTION: This two-shaft gas turbine comprises a compressor driving turbine 5, the output turbine 2 rotating independently of the compressor driving turbine 5, a normally opening cooling air flow passage 70 leading cooling air from the compressor 3 to a wheel space 36 at least between a stator 40 and a rotor 10 on a first stage, an auxiliary cooling air flow passage 80 leading the cooling air extracted from the compressor 3 to wheel spaces 37 and 38 positioned on the downstream side of the first stage rotor 10 of the output turbine 2, and an opening/closing means 83 opening/closing the auxiliary cooling air flow passage 80.
