PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transfer to a metal oxide such as silica the molecular level chiral information that a polymer having an optically active chiral orientation configuration such as a helical structure possesses, and to establish the technology to make separate chiral orientation configurations from one polymer and transfer them into the metal oxide. SOLUTION: There is provided an organic/inorganic complex having an optically active chiral orientation configuration which consists of a polymer (mentioned below) and an optically inactive metal oxide. The polymer, which has the optically active chiral orientation configuration although composed of an achiral monomer unit, is obtained by making a polymer consisting of an achiral monomer unit and an optically active compound form a complex, thereby to induce the optically active chiral orientation configuration in the polymer, then making an optically inactive metal alkoxide and/or an optically inactive metal halide act on the polymer, and thereafter reacting an optically inactive metal alkoxide and/or an metal halide with the product in the presence of water.
