<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air purifier which shows deodorization, adsorption and sterilization effects by photocatalyst over a wide area and where a light source irradiating the photocatalyst with light is effectively utilized for other purposes than the photocatalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The air purifier 1 consists of the photocatalyst exciting light source 7 and a glass body 5 which surrounds the photocatalyst exciting light source, which is translucent and which carries the photocatalyst. The photocatalyst exciting light source 7 irradiates the photocatalyst with light of a wavelength region which excites and activates the photocatalyst. The glass body 5 has gas permeability by pores, and has translucency to the wave length region from an ultraviolet region to a visible light region. In addition, the glass body 5 carries the photocatalyst such as titanium oxide (TiO<SB>2</SB>) which shows oxidation or reduction at the pores. Thus, smell components, bacteria and contaminants in the air are brought into contact with the photocatalyst to be decomposed and sterilized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
