PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield tunnel construction method which is applicable to the construction of a widening section of a shield tunnel, wherein segments and a jacking mechanism are simplified as much as possible and wherein the operation of a shield machine is facilitated, to thereby achieve the stable excavation of the tunnel and the cost reduction of construction work as a whole. SOLUTION: The shield tunnel construction method is implemented by using the shield machine 1 having a widening excavation section on one side of a circular excavation section. By the method, when an ordinary section other than the widening section is constructed, the cylindrical lining of the tunnel is carried out by assembling the cylindrical segments 6, and a space between the excavated wall surface of the tunnel and the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical segment 6 at the widening excavation section is filled with a filler 10. On the other hand, when the widening section is constructed, an almost half portion of the cylindrical segments 6 is assembled, widening section segments 7 are assembled to line the widening section on the one side of the circular excavation section, and the shield machine 1 is excavated over the entire length of the tunnel by means of a plurality of shield jacks 8 arranged on the cylindrical segments 6 so as to take jacking reaction forces.
