PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of application of transparent rust preventive paint onto a mark printed on steel products by which application of the rust preventive paint can be performed in a short period of time, the sagging and application unevenness of the rust preventive paint is less liable to occur and excellent work efficiency is realized. SOLUTION: A plate-like coating material 4 consisting of a substrate 4a, an oil layer 4b, and the film-like rust preventive paint 4c is used in the application method. First, the rust preventive paint 4c side is directed toward the inside surface side of a steel pipe 1 and is brought into tight contact with a mark forming section 12.
