PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus preventing deformation of recording material and obtaining a stable fixing function by automatically changing to the best fixing condition according to the type of recording material or state of a fixing apparatus. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus and its control method, when the following recording material is supplied to an image forming part at the point a pressurized contact nip part of the heat fixing part is passed by the preceding recording material and a continuous printing action continuing in a state in which an image forming action is started, first temperature indicating the environmental temperature in the vicinity of the heat fixing part in the initial point of the continuous printing action is measured (S102). Then, second temperature indicating the temperature of the recording material passed through the pressurized contact nip part at a given point during the continuous printing action is measured (S105).
