768,059. Severing webs. LILLA EDETS PAPPERSBRUKS AKTIEBOLAG. Feb. 16, 1955 [March 6, 1954], No. 4711/55. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XVI] In a web-winding machine (see Group XVI), a web is severed from a completely wound roll, not shown, by a nozzle 41, Fig. 4, through which compressed air is forced so as to strike an edge of the web. In order to assist severing, tubes 47 connected to a supply of compressed air may also be positioned in spaces 5 between sections 4 forming a drum 3 which feeds the web to be wound. In a modification, flat steel bars provide springs 79, Fig. 9, secured to the lower branches 77 of fork-shaped members, not shown, such that when the branches 77 are moved by a pneumatically-actuated piston, not shown, towards the web resilient arms 83 engage the web passing over the feeding drum and sever it along a transverse line. Instead of the springs, pins 84, Fig. 10, having a rubber or similar cover 85 engage the web to effect severing. |
