PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket which protects short circuiting, caused by an electrical connection between mutual terminals on the plug side, and can exhibit effective ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) protection function. SOLUTION: The socket has an electrostatic discharge protecting mechanism 8 to discharge static electricity of the plug side on a socket body 4, having socket side terminals 3 connected to plug side terminals 2 in fitting a plug, where the electrostatic discharge protecting mechanism 8 is mounted on a plug facing surface 9 of the socket body 4. The socket comprises a discharge plate 12 which is formed in a shape of a plate to cover the terminals 3 on the socket side, and on which insertion holes 13 are made open in matching with the positions of the terminals 3 on the socket side, respectively; an insulating member 14 which is mounted on the discharge plate 12, is formed so as to cover at least a plug facing surface 12a of the discharge plate 12, and has plug holes 15 that are made open in matching with the positions of the insertion holes 13; and a plurality of discharge holes 18 formed on a plug facing surface (front insulation part 14a) of the insulating member 14; where the arrangement interval of the discharge holes 18 is different from the arrangement interval of the terminals 2 on the plug side.
