<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for easily regenerating tissues without spending much time for restoring a tissue defect in a patient by a composite implant. <P>SOLUTION: A composite implant 10 is composed of a porous tissue scaffold 12 having a pocket 14 formed therein and adapted to contain a viable tissue. The tissue scaffold can have a variety of configurations, and in one embodiment it includes a top portion 12a and a bottom portion 12b that can be at least partially mated to one another, and in an exemplary embodiment, the top and bottom portions are heat-sealed to one another around a perimeter thereof to form an enclosed pocket therebetween. The pocket is preferably sealed with a viable tissue 16 disposed therein. In another embodiment, the tissue scaffold is substantially wedge-shaped, and the pocket comprises a hollow interior formed in the tissue scaffold and at least one lumen extending into the tissue scaffold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
