摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for processing and amplifying an optical signal by using semiconductor optical amplifiers, and improving the performance of each saturated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). <P>SOLUTION: In an optical communication method comprising a process of generating a phase shift key optical signal, and a process of passing the optical signal through semiconductor optical amplifiers of deep saturation and transferring the signal, RZ-DPSK (RZ differential phase shift keying) modulation is used. For generating a phase shift key optical signal, and automatically adjusting, limiting, or regulating the amplified optical power to a predetermined or desired level (for example, a saturated output power of the SOA), the optical signal is transmitted through the semiconductor amplifiers of deep saturation. A channel power equalizer is provided, comprising a demultiplexer for demultiplexing an optical signal comprising two or more channels using phase shift keying, a multiplxer for multiplexing two or more optical channels, and two or more semiconductor amplifiers coupled to the demultiplexer and the multiplexer, and adapted so as to perform optical power equalization of the two or more channels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
