PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device of simple constitution, by which toner can efficiently be removed from an image carrier. SOLUTION: A secondary cleaning device 16 is equipped with a cleaning brush 31, a collection roller 32, and a control part 43. The cleaning brush 31 is driven by a driving mechanism 38, to rotate having brush fiber 31b brought into contact with a secondary transfer belt 13, and consequently, a toner 40 on the secondary transfer belt 13 is collected. The collection roller 32 is driven by a driving mechanism 39 to rotate in a state of contacting the cleaning brush 31, thereby collecting the toner 40 from the cleaning brush 31. At a part where the collection roller 32 and cleaning brush 31 come into contact with each other, the collection roller 32 rotates, in such a direction that the collection roller 32 and cleaning brush 31 move in the same direction. The control part 43 controls the driving mechanisms 38 and 39 so that the peripheral speed ratio of the collection roller 32 to the cleaning brush 31 is between 1 and 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
