PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest device of a chair in which securing force of a back plate member relative to a backrest support body is high and a gap is not formed between the backrest support body and the back plate member after securing, while the operation for securing the back plate member to the backrest support body is simple. SOLUTION: The back plate member 4 is formed by covering the surface of a shell 8 with a cushion body 9, engaging means 11 are formed at suitable positions of the shell and the backrest support body 3, a plurality of depressed portions are formed in the backrest support body, and securing holes 13 communicating with the depressed portions from below are formed in the depressed portions. Further, protrusions 14 inserted into the depressed portions are formed in the back face side of the shell, through holes 15 are formed in the protrusions, the back plate member is temporarily secured to the backrest support body with the engaging means, thereafter screws 16 inserted into the securing holes are screw-fitted in the through holes of the protrusions inserted into the depressed portions, the back plate member is pulled and secured to the backrest support body.
