<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cyanamide hydratase which is an enzyme for hydrolyzing cyanamide, and to provide a method for producing urea with the cyanamide hydratase. <P>SOLUTION: The cyanamide hydratase has the following properties (a) to (d), or the cyanamide hydratase has homology of at least 30 % based on a specific amino acid sequence and having an activity to catalyze a conversion reaction for hydrating the cyanamide into urea. (a) Activity: catalyzes the conversion reaction for hydrating the cyanamide into the urea. (b) Molecular weight: 44 to 45 kDa measured by gel filtration using a column containing agalose as a carrier. (c) Having a relative activity of at least 70 % at 25 to 40°C.
