PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing system and its program which make it possible to avoid photographing failure even when the light of an AF sensor is intercepted. SOLUTION: When a shutter is half depressed by a user (S12), the output OR and output OL of a sensor array are obtained (S13 and S14). Then, it is judged whether the absolute value of a difference between the output OR and the output OL is higher than a threshold or not (S15). When judged that the absolute value is higher than the threshold, a warning is given to the user (S17 and S18), and then AF processing is performed by a contrast detection system. Conversely, when judged that the absolute value is lower than the threshold, a focusing lens is moved by a phase difference detection system so that the focus lens is moved to focus relative to the distance of a subject (20). Subsequently, by moving the focus lens within a narrow range from the present position of the focus lens, the focus lens is moved to the lens position where a contrast value is the highest (S21).
