PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stepping motor driving device, and a device and a method for detecting stepping-out, capable of quickly detecting and preventing occurrence of a stepping-out phenomenon without using any exclusive components. SOLUTION: This driving device is provided with an RF amplifier 7 for detecting the focus error signal of a pickup 3, an acceleration sensor 9 for detecting the focus-direction vibration of a casing 10 having the pickup 3 mounted thereon, and a controller 8 for determining the presence of stepping-out on the basis of the focus error signal of the pickup 3 and the vibration information of the casing 10. By using the RF amplifier 7 and the acceleration sensor 9 generally disposed in an optical disk device, the occurrence of stepping-out is detected only by the combination of the focus error signal and the vibration information, Thus, the necessity of disposing any special components such as an encoder is eliminated, and the occurrence of stepping-out is detected in real time on the basis of information outputted at any time.
