PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boron adsorbent the structure of which is easily controlled, which has excellent stability, by which boron in the water can be adsorbed selectively and which has a high adsorption rate and large adsorption capacity and to provide a method for producing the boron adsorbent. SOLUTION: This boron adsorbent is constituted so that the inside of a pore of meso-porous silica is modified by at least one group selected from the group consisting of an amino group, an amino group substituted by a monosaccharide and an amino group substituted by phenols. This method for producing the boron adsorbent comprises the step of: reacting amino-alkyl-trialkoxysilane with the meso-porous silica synthesized by using quaternary ammonium salt having a long-chain alkyl group as a template agent and tetraalkoxysilane as a silica source to obtain the meso-porous silica the inside of whose pore is modified by the amino group; and reacting the monosaccharide having a formyl group and/or phenols each having the formyl group with the meso-porous silica the inside of whose pore is modified by the amino group.
