<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively obtain optimum discharging bias from the time when image forming operation is started. <P>SOLUTION: In applying discharging voltage to a discharging member 70 for eliminating the electrostatic charge of recording material S to which a toner image is transferred by a transfer means 10b for transferring the toner image to the recording material S, prescribed voltage is preapplied to the member 70 so as to discharge between the member 70 and a discharge object 10b and detect a current flowing between the member 70 and the object 10b, and the discharging voltage applied to the member 70 in transferring the toner image is determined based on the detected value before performing transfer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
