PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for adjusting a tooth space of a preliminarily processed workpiece. SOLUTION: The method and the device adjust the tooth space of the workpiece having a precut tooth, and is arranged on a work spindle of a gear finishing machine. The workpiece 1 is meshed with a pilot gear 6 and a non-backlash double flank. The workpiece 1 rotates, and both an angle distance of the space central line of the pilot gear 6 and a center distance between the pilot gear 6 and the workpiece 1 are measured during this rotation.
