To detect the presence of central nervous tissue in products and on surfaces, especially from the brain and the spinal cord, a test kit is used with a specific antibody to determine the presence of protein gene product 9.5 (PGP9.5) which indicates any such contamination. The antibody uses two anti-PGP9.5 antibodies with at least one specific monoclonal antibody. The test kit includes an enzyme linked immunoabsorbant assay (ELISA) test.
