The invention relates to a method for calibrating smart antenna array systems in real time. In previous calibration before the antenna array is fixed, transmitting and receiving compensate factors of each antenna cell relative to calibration antenna cell are obtained. After the antenna array is fixed, when transmitting calibration is performed, many transmitting links transmit calibration signals at the same time, and baseband signal processor calculates amplitude and phase response information of every transmitting link according to the signal received by the calibration link. Then together with transmitting compensate factors of previous calibration, compensate factors of each transmitting link are calculated and obtained by the baseband signal processor, for the use of base down-data compensate. When receiving calibration is performed, calibration link transmits calibration signal, and the baseband signal processor calculates amplitude and phase response information of every receiving link according to the signals received by many receiving links. Then together with reveiving compensate factors of previous calibration, compensate factors of each receiving link are calculated and obtained, for the use of base up-data compensate. Basic calibration sequence uses periodically circular replacement to form the calibration signal of each antenna cell.
